Poinsettia Heights is a neighborhood in the northeast section of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is adjacent to the neighborhoods of Lake Ridge and Middle River Terrace. Poinsettia Heights, including the subdivisions of Progresso and Lake Ridge, is bordered by Wilton Manors to the North, US-1 to the East, Sunrise Blvd to the South and Dixie Highway to the West. The beautiful beaches of the Atlantic Ocean are just a stone's throw away from the community. Some of Fort Lauderdale's main tourist attractions are located near Poinsettia Heights including the Broward Performing Arts Center, Las Olas Boulevard and The Museum of Discovery and Science.
Poinsettia Heights was rezoned in the 1980s to protect the neighborhood’s suburban charm by not allowing town homes or condos to be built within the neighborhood boundaries, only allowing them to be built on the major roadways that border the area. Despite these restrictions, there’s still plenty of new construction in Poinsettia Heights, with modern single family homes adding a futuristic flair to this classic neighborhood. A combination of classic older homes and recent new construction, the community is quickly gaining popularity due to its old Florida charm and close proximity to downtown and the beaches. Poinsettia Heights also includes some unique waterfront property with lovely views on the landlocked Lake Melva.
The suburban streets feature a mix of classic ranch style homes as well as larger Spanish-inspired designs; however, both styles favoring the bright exteriors and layered clay roofing common throughout southern Florida. Colohatchee Park, an 8.5-acre community park is just across the river from Poinsettia Heights. This waterfront green space includes 7 acres of mangrove preserves along with an elevated walking path to explore the natural environment.
